Setting Up A Secure
Server/Firewall
Introduction
Implementing server security is possibly the single most important thing that an organisation can do to reduce the risk of data loss due to virus attacks and hackers. Elsewhere in these documents I have stated that user training and education is of paramount importance when establishing a secure network environment, but that has to be balanced with protection at a higher level. The way to do this is to install and monitor a firewall.
One important point - a firewall isn't a thing in a box, it is a component in a system which implements a security policy. As I have said elsewhere on this site the concept is called 'defence in depth'.
